*Despite its popularity unfortunately our weekly Wednesday Beginners Class is on hold as of April 2023 due to unforeseen circumstances (a lead teacher is being sought so do get in touch if you know of one)*

Shim Sham Solo Jazz Class - Wednesday 10th May 2023, 7-9pm at The Station, Frome

Come and join us for a Solo Jazz/Jazz Steps routine class, the 'Shim Sham'. This is a solo dance performed with others in a group, so no partner required. Please book on if you can,  though you may be able to just drop in on the night.

Suitable for absolute beginners, and those with some dance experience.*

Wednesday 10th May, 7-9pm

£8/£7 concs - to book on email swingtimefrome@gmail.com.

Venue: Super Studio, The Station, Station Approach, Frome, BA11 1RE.

Teacher: Tamsin

Today the Shim Sham is performed globally at swing dance events, small dance gatherings or just whenever the song is played - Tain't What You Do (It’s The Way That You Do It by Jimmie Lunceford). It's a MUST to know for all Lindy Hoppers and if you've been to a swing dance social dancing evening you will no doubt have spotted it. It's a solo jazz/jazz steps dance which originated from a tap dance routine dating back to 1928. It was revamped by the wonderful Lindy Hop pioneer Frankie Manning (fondly know as the Father of Lindy Hop), who is pictured above performing the dance.

*If the demand is there, we'll hold a second 're-cap' class on Wednesday 24th May so you can go over and solidify what you've learnt.

Wednesday Beginners Class (on hold)

The class is aimed at beginners or those with a little dancing experience and are wanting to recap.  It's a drop in class, so there's no need to book.*

When:  Every Wednesday, 7pm - 8.30pm.

Where:  Station Approach (head towards the Rye Bakery, then go through the glass double doors to the right - we are inside on the left... listen out for music!), Super Studio, Frome, Somerset, BA11 1RE.

Prices:  Class cost is £10.  Cash only please.

All Welcome (18+ only) - no partner required (we will rotate partners during the lesson).

*If you're travelling from further afield and would like to put your name down, then please text or email so you can feel reassured you have a space.

Classes will be suitable for both dance beginners and those with some dance experience.  Coming most weeks will ensure faster dancing progress, but if you miss a class that's fine as we'll be teaching slightly different beginner material each week.

Classes for more advanced dancers will be available in the future.  Get in touch or we'll let you know through the mailing list, Instagram or Facebook.

Your teachers will be Tamsin (Swing Time Frome) and Gordon (SwingJazzJive - https://www.swingjazzjive.uk.).  We can be contacted through either of the website contact pages where you can register for future updates.
