The course is aimed at absolute beginners and those wanting to build on what they’ve already learnt - there will be plenty of new material for those who've already attended our workshops or classes. Our classes are fun and friendly and will always take you through the basics, so no dance experience is necessary.  All ages are welcome, from 16 to 101!

Please pre-book for the full six weeks, as the course is structured and each week will be building on the last.  It's therefore not a drop in class.  If you can't attend one of the sessions, please get in touch as we may be able to arrange something.

The Course
Over the six weeks we will work on the fundamentals of this swing dance, the Lindy Hop. We’ll cover the basic foot work patterns, travels and turns, frame and connection, technique and confidence to social dance. The first hour will be a class and the last half hour we'll play swing music for practice time, questions and social dancing.

The Venue
The course will take place in the gym at the Steiner School (centrally located next to Victoria Park), Park Road, Frome, BA11 1EU.  There is a large car park next to the gym.

The Price
For the six weeks (with 9 hours of tuition and practice):
£45 per person
£40 per person (if booking as a couple – lead and follow)
£35 concessions (or get in touch to discuss as we want our courses to be accessible to everyone.)

If you book on with a partner or a friend the price is slightly reduced to encourage even numbers of leads and follows. Men and women can choose to lead or follow! If you have any questions about which role you might prefer, please get in touch.

And about your teachers:

Tamsin Marshall
Tamsin set up Swing Time Frome with the aim of spreading the love of swing dance to her (now) home town of Frome!

She dances a variety of styles and attends swing dance classes and camps. She loves to both lead and follow. She is currently teaching with Swing Time Frome and Swing Motion Bath and performs authentic jazz/Charleston having worked with a number of dance troupes including The Bristolettes - https://www.facebook.com/bristolettes/. Currently she is practicing with the Jazz Hands dance troupe based in Bristol. She is also a musician and enjoys bringing out the playfulness and musicality of the dance in herself and her students!

Joe Medlpott
Joe is a dedicated and experienced dancer, teaching weekly lindy hop/swing dance classes in Bristol and Bath. He also DJs and co-organises a monthly swing dance social night in Bristol.

He first fell in love with the dance in 2010 after attending a taster class. "I'd always loved early rock n roll music and so originally thought I'd give jive dance a go until a friend suggested I try swing. I was hooked straight away by how fun, varied and playful it is! Swing music suddenly came alive too and made so much more sense once I started partner dancing to it. That's what it's made for!" Joe still enjoys developing his dancing through attending workshops and dance camps in the UK and abroad, bringing back what he's learnt to share in his classes.
